Made in 1967 for the Bentota Beach Hotel, this is an adaptation of a colonial verandah chair, an original of which is in the Bawa collection in the guest suite at No.11, the Bawa residence, which also has three upholstered versions. A similar chair was designed for use by Mexican architect Luis Barragan, it is unknown whether Bawa was aware of the design or whether these are parallel evolutions of colonial designs in opposite parts of the globe.
