Dr Ramachandran will host a workshop on writing about sculpture. The session considers sculpture as a thing made rather than divined. It explores different approaches to the description of sculptural characteristics, processes, and materiality, and investigates the dialogue between maker and material.

Participants will examine how sculpture has been described in art historical texts by Giorgio Vasari, Stella Kramrisch, and John Berger, followed by reflections on sculpture by sculptors including Auguste Rodin and Barbara Hepworth. The workshop will conclude with a written description of the sculpted works of Constantin Brâncuși, Ramkinker Baij, Elizabeth Catlett, and others.

Open to students, artists, and enthusiasts of all backgrounds.
