‘30 Days of Akuru’ is an annual global design challenge where creators worldwide reimagine a single Sinhala or Tamil letter every day for a month through illustration, sculpture, or motion graphics.
Co-founders Chamodi Waidyathilaka and Vihanga Samaradiwakara started the event in 2019 as a celebration of Sinhala and Tamil letterforms, exploring one letter for each day of the month.
Now in its eighth edition, the 2026 celebration will kick off with an informal meet-up of creators and typography enthusiasts.
Seven local artists will be sharing their work to walk through their creative process and illustrate how they approach letters in their own way. No big presentations, no formal workshops, just good conversations, interesting work, and a space to connect.

The Akuru Collective brings together people passionate about lettering, type design, visual communication, and the stories behind written forms. Cofounder Vihanga Samaradiwakara, a motion graphics and logo designer with a deep passion for typography, hosts this event.
